A Cuban was reported missing on Monday after going scuba diving at Playa de Verraco, along the coast of Santiago de Cuba, as reported by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada on his Facebook profile.

According to a statement from a local resident, the young man, nicknamed 'Cachelo', was practicing spearfishing when the incident occurred.

"His family is at the Sigua checkpoint, because since yesterday at 2 PM, which was the last time his father-in-law saw him in the water, keeping him company, he has not appeared," he recounted.

Cachelo, who was a diver from the Eastern Center for Ecosystems and Biodiversity (BIOECO), is being searched for by the Rescue and Salvage team. The operation was interrupted at nightfall.

In the comments on the post, residents of the community confirmed the disappearance and expressed their concern for the young man. Some described him as "one of the best fishermen on that beach" and highlighted his admirable character.
