The woman with mental disabilities who was assaulted by the police while being removed from a polyclinic in Santiago de Cuba has been identified as Reina Valet Poll, a former healthcare worker.
The 50-year-old woman suffered an accident that left her with several physical consequences, reported communicator Yosvany Mayeta on Facebook.
Valet, who previously worked as a physical therapist at the Vista Alegre clinic, now has platinum plates in his head due to an accident, as stated in a message addressed to Mayeta.
Additionally, the woman who was assaulted by the Cuban police is suffering from anxiety, has experienced ischemia, and has a dragging foot.
"It is not fair for the police to beat a sick person," the post states, emphasizing that she should be admitted and receiving medical care.
"It's the first thing doctors need to do before calling the police," said the author of the message.
"That a person is without medical treatment due to a regime that is not powerful in any aspect, and is aggressive because she lacks these pills, does not justify the violent way in which Mrs. Poll was treated," Mayeta argued in the post.
Finally, the communicator emphasized that the actions of these police officers should be examined and urged the provincial authorities to "take measures in this regard."
The incident occurred on the night of this Saturday at the José Martí Urban Center in the eastern city. The woman became aggressive upon realizing she was not receiving medical attention.
The situation prompted healthcare staff to call the police to take control.
The communicator Mayeta released a video showing a woman asking to see the transfer document indicating where they are taking her, but both the police and the health personnel refuse to tell her.
"At the end of this unfortunate incident, the police chose to strike her inside a small office in an attempt to restrain her, thinking that no one would see or record this distressing scene, which, thank God, we can view today and expose through our page," Mayeta warned.
