The Cuban singer-songwriter Adrián Berazaín, currently on tour in Mexico, pointed out that one of the biggest challenges in retaining an audience in Cuba is the current issue of people's migration.
The young troubadour gave an interview to Zona Acústica, revealing that creators like him find it challenging to develop their art in the Caribbean nation due to the migration of many Cubans off the island, mostly young people.
This situation "makes it difficult to maintain a constant audience," considered Berazaín in response to the question of how he sees the current landscape of music in Cuba.
According to the author of the song "La Estación," the overwhelming rise of rhythms such as reggaeton and the new reparto, "a style similar to reggaeton with Cuban clave, have gained popularity among the new generations, displacing to some extent songs with more thoughtful and profound lyrics."
In addition, the young interpreter pointed out that, since the Covid pandemic, Cuban musicians dedicated to less popular genres have faced a challenging period. "There was no cultural or entertainment activity, which made it difficult to stay relevant," he stated.
Finally, Berazaín confronts the "unpopularity" of "songs with more thoughtful and profound lyrics" by releasing singles, a way to "stay active and offer new content constantly," as reviewed by Zona Acústica.
In this way, the performer has adapted to the changes in the music industry and also to the current Cuban landscape.
Since 2018, and as a strategy to adjust his pace of musical production, the troubadour has released an album every two years and several singles, "allowing him to stay relevant and connected with his audience," as pointed out by the cited website.
Berazaín arrived in Mexico on May 11, due to several performances he would have in Mexico City and Querétaro, sharing the stage with local singer-songwriter Miguel Inzunza.
Concert 'Bohemia de Ultramar' at Pedra de El Caserío, in Querétaro, to the beat of clapping and point-blank songs, alongside my friend Miguel Inzunza. "Thanks to this very special audience who accompanied and embraced us in every note," Berazaín posted last Saturday on Instagram.
