Cuban boxer Robeisy Ramírez, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, announced that he will return to the ring in Miami in June to try to regain his World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight title.
"The Tren Ramírez" will face Mexican Brandon León Benítez, 26 years old, with a record of 23 wins, 9 by knockout, and 2 losses, on June 29 at the James L. Knight Center.
On June 29th, my mission to regain my world title and return to the top, where I know I belong, begins. Cuba vs. Mexico again, and I am excited to have the loyal support of the Cuban community in Miami. So, bring your flag," wrote the Cuban boxer on social media.
"It will be an electrifying event. The journey is far from over. My return will be legendary. The train is coming back!" he added.
Tickets for the fight are available through Top Rank's official channels and the price ranges between 60 and 300 dollars.
The Mexican boxer has also referred to the fight.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to show that I belong among the best in the division. But I want Robeisy Ramírez to know that this is nothing new for me. I know what it's like to step onto enemy territory against a tough former world champion," said the Mexican rival in statements collected by the sports press, promising that he will not make it easy for the Cuban.
Like I did with Can, I am going to make it a difficult night for Ramirez. I respect him as a boxer, but as soon as I step into the ring, I am not going to stop throwing punches until my hand is raised," he concluded.
Robeisy Ramírez, 30 years old, has a professional record of 13 wins in 15 fights, with 8 knockouts.
The Cuban lost his title in December of last year to the Mexican Rafael 'Divino' Espinoza.
Ramírez's promoter, Top Rank Boxing, confirmed that the Cuban's fight will be the co-main event of the card headlined by the bout of Teófimo López, who will defend his WBO super lightweight title against Canadian Steve Claggett. The card will also include the rematch between Nico Ali Walsh and Sona Akale in the middleweight division.
