One of the most anticipated moments for Martha's followers, Cuba's most viral grandmother, and her "grandson" Ariel Ramos Perdomo has been their farewell. This emotional moment was shared through a video posted on social media this Wednesday.
The relationship between this grandmother and the young man she considers her grandson has been unique, allowing them to garner thousands of followers on social media. Equally remarkable and singular was their farewell, filled with the wit and humor that one would expect, and above all, the deep love they feel for each other.
Ariel chose a quote from Charles Darwin to accompany the video posted on Instagram: “We stopped looking for monsters under the bed to discover that they were within us.”
"The truth always finds a way to emerge, hilarious and victorious," the young man also noted.
The video begins with a puzzling statement from the grandson to his grandmother: they have been living together for four years, and she has never seen what he does for a living.
Their farewell began with a water dance dedicated to Ariel's profession, as she enjoyed an ice cream.
Subsequently, one of the most emotional conversations between them took place, beginning with Ariel's question to his grandmother: "Do you know that I'm going to miss you?"
"What am I going to do! And you to me," replies Martha, who then says, "I can't go with you, I don't want to go."
And after the emotional moment, that comedic touch that has always been present in their videos comes to the forefront.
In response to Martha's declaration that she doesn't want to go to the United States, even for a visit, her grandson replies, “Do you know how much food we're going to eat there? The 400 pounds we're going to gain?”
The lady, with the spontaneity that has made her famous, responded: "You take her."
Later, she confessed to him that she would indeed miss him, but even so, she wouldn't go to the United States. At that moment, some tears emerged, albeit discreetly.
"Then all I have left is to help you," said Ariel, to which his grandmother replied, "That's right."
"Do you know that this could be the last video we make?" said the young man. "And what are we going to do?" the woman replied.
At that moment, tears streamed down Ariel's face, and likely along with him, many others cried through the screens of their phones.
Then, they ended the video in the truest style of Grandma Martha and her grandson Ariel: dancing the conga.
The closing of the clip is a beautiful image and message: "There will never be an Ariel without Martha."
Last Sunday, he arrived in the United States. "Thank you to everyone, especially you, YG Insurance Solutions; freedom is something priceless," he said on his Instagram account.
Since then, the thousands of followers who have followed the love story between Martha and Ariel have been eagerly awaiting statements from both of them.
This Tuesday, the young man explained in an interview with journalist Mario J. Pentón that he met Marta nearly four years ago when he and his partner rented a house owned by Marta.
Ariel, who arrived this weekend in the state of Missouri thanks to humanitarian parole, explained that Marta is not his grandmother in real life, although he says he loves her as if she were, and emphasized that she will continue to be a fundamental part of his life.
