The regime's inaction has led Cuban activists to seek help on social media for an elderly woman and her nephew with Down syndrome in Camagüey, who are suffering from a severe food shortage.
The activist Guelmi Abdul reported the case on Facebook, explaining that Iris, a 72-year-old woman, has had to take care of her nephew Yosvany, who is 24. However, the situation of both is precarious due to their low economic incomes.
According to the publication, Yosvany lived with two brothers who pawned the checkbook that social services had provided him, which is in the process of being canceled. In addition, they sold the ration book: "They left him alone at home, so his aunt took him with her."
However, the activist's alert pointed out that her aunt, being an elderly person, is finding it difficult to feed her nephew.
Furthermore, it was explained that currently some neighbors and the Medicamento Ayuda Camagüey group on WhatsApp, as well as the Aleluya temple in Plaza de La Habana, led by Dr. Oscar Rivero, are supporting this family with clothes, mattresses, hygiene products, and shoes.
"We need to come together and involve more people in the cause, because many are in great need when it comes to food," the alert stated, highlighting that this is just one of the many families in Cuba suffering hardships under the indifferent gaze of the regime.
Iris and Yosvany live in building 11, apartment nine, Sánchez Soto neighborhood, in front of the Sánchez Soto computing club, in Camagüey. The home landline phone number is 32201496.
Recently, the same activist warned about a very similar situation in the city of Camagüey, reporting on the precarious situation of an elderly woman and her son with Down syndrome, who are going through a crisis so severe that the lady has been forced to go out on the street to beg for alms.
Abdul, who has a support group for people in need, recounted on his Facebook wall the case of Roger, the young man with Down syndrome, and his mother Gilda, who is over 70 years old.
