Python hunter Donna Kalil, known for her work in reducing invasive snakes in Everglades National Park, reported that her team captured 72 pythons in the month of July alone.
In a Facebook post, Kalil said that the women's organization she leads, known as the "Everglades Avengers," captured that incredible number in one month and a total of 969 since they decided to dedicate themselves to this work.
Kalil highlighted that last month was exceptional in the world of python hunting, an invasive species that has altered the wildlife in southern Florida.
"It has been an incredible experience and I hope to continue with the mission of removing as many pythons as possible to make a significant positive difference in the native wildlife," wrote Kalil in his post.
Additionally, he revealed that he made his first python capture in the Florida Keys.
The "Everglades Avengers" team, composed exclusively of women, has recently welcomed several new members.
In an interview with Local 10 News, Kalil confirmed that his team will participate in the Florida Python Challenge 2024, a competition that will start at 12:01 a.m. on Friday and will run until 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 18.
Florida authorities pay 50 dollars for every 30 centimeters up to 1.20 meters of snake and 25 dollars for every additional 30 centimeters as a reward for hunting these animals considered invaders.
