After a prolonged interruption that affected electronic payment channels, the Metropolitan Bank of Cuba announced this Sunday the full restoration of its services.

The entity itself announced the restoration on the social network X, after several hours of technical problems that caused significant inconveniences for users, who were unable to make transactions.

The ATMs, the payment gateways Transfermóvil and EnZona, Telebanca (telephone banking), Metropolitano en Línea (remote banking), point of sale terminals (TPV or POS), as well as transactions with magnetic stripe cards at bank counters, were out of service, according to the institution itself in a note published on the official site Cubadebate.

According to Martí Noticias, in early 2024, technical reasons in the Cuban banking system, including the Metropolitan Bank, caused Western Union to suspend its remittance services to the island from the United States for more than three months.

In the month of February, the regime of the Island also carried out a six-hour halt in the electronic payment systems, linked to various types of magnetic cards, ATMs, and virtual transfer apps, with the aim of expanding the service and standardizing its operation.
