Humorist Jardiel shows the state of the Comodoro nightclub: "What is left remaining."

The former nightclub is now an abandoned dump.

The iconic Havana Club nightclub of the Comodoro, which was once the most important in Cuba, is in a lamentable state of abandonment, turned into a garbage dump, denounced Cuban comedian Jardiel González in a video published on his Instagram account.

"Look at this, my people: the old parking lot of the Comodoro nightclub, in Havana, Cuba, turned into a gigantic garbage dump," Jardiel expressed while showing images of the place where, in the 1990s, thousands of Cubans and foreigners enjoyed the best nights of the Cuban capital.

"The best nightclub in Cuba is now a dumping ground," he added.

In the video, the comedian tours what remains of the legendary establishment located in the municipality of Playa, which during its heyday had a capacity for 800 people and offered three beverage areas.

Jardiel nostalgically recalled the DJ booth and the dance floor, now in ruins.

"Here I spent my entire youth, and look at what remains," he lamented.

The Havana Club nightclub at the Comodoro closed its doors in 1998 during "Operation Lacra," a campaign by the Cuban regime to combat corruption, prostitution, and drug use.

Although it briefly reopened in 2000, it closed definitively in 2001. In 2018, the government announced its rehabilitation, but to this day the site remains in the same state of neglect.

The floor, which was once covered with marble tiles, is now destroyed; the walls are gray and crumbling, and there are no windows.

"There must be a bunch of Cubans watching this who enjoyed everything here and more," commented Jardiel, referring to those who lived through the golden years of the nightclub.

The situation of El Comodoro is just one example of the deterioration that many of the emblematic sites in Havana are suffering.

This Tuesday, another video surfaced showing the state of destruction of Parque Lenin, another iconic recreational site in the Cuban capital.

This place is in a state of alarming abandonment, with spaces overgrown with weeds and vandalized facilities that today serve as improvised housing for homeless individuals.

Images published by the YouTube channel JSant TV show the attractions of the ruined park, surrounded by weeds and debris, with the famous star, which once was the largest on the island, with broken glass and being overtaken by nature.

The roller coaster and the concert area are also completely in ruins. The stage and its dressing rooms are destroyed.

In its golden years, Lenin Park was considered the green heart of the capital, a symbol of childhood happiness in the 1980s.

Today, alongside the Havana Club nightclub of the Comodoro, it is merely a painful reminder of institutional neglect.
