She was carrying her critically ill baby on a bus, and a police officer stopped her for 20 minutes in Havana.

The father of the sick baby reported that the police officer's insensitivity put the life of the three-month-old child at risk.

A three-month-old baby with breathing difficulties arrived with life-threatening risk at the Juan Manuel Márquez hospital in Havana last Saturday, after a traffic officer stopped the bus transporting them for 20 minutes.

The baby's father reported on the Miranda Miranda Facebook profile that his neighbor was the only one who could offer them transportation to the hospital.

However, along the way, they were intercepted by a police officer who, despite the evident emergency, requested the driver's documentation and conducted a breathalyzer test, ignoring the severity of the baby's condition.

The complainant and his wife desperately tried to make the officer understand that their daughter could not breathe: “The girl continues to have trouble breathing... a three-month-old baby, and he didn’t care,” he emphasized in his statement.

According to the father, the delay of 15 to 20 minutes worsened the condition of the baby, who was eventually transported by another vehicle that stopped to help.

The girl arrived in serious condition at the hospital and is currently hospitalized in the respiratory room, it was indicated.

“If something had happened to the baby because of that officer, what would I do?” questioned the father, who also reported that the driver who helped them was punished with the revocation of his license, which demonstrates the insensitivity of the police in Cuba, who remain unpunished in cases like this.

The father requested that his story be shared on social media in the hope that the incident does not go unpunished and that the authorities take action against the agent's lack of ethics.

Cuban police frequently abuse their power, also displaying an alarming level of insensitivity.

In July, a Cuban reported a case of police abuse against herself, her husband, and her mother, which occurred in Havana.

"I write this document with the intention of letting the authorities of this country know into whose hands they are leaving their Cuban people, Cubans who are being mistreated physically and mentally by the police themselves, who are working in their own way and convenience, where the laws are neither fair nor upheld by them," wrote Yenisey Borrero Cuéllar in the first of three posts in recent hours in the Facebook group Denouncing Crimes in Cuba.

That same month, a Cuban mother reported a beating inflicted by a police officer on her son in Havana during a birthday party.
