A 12-year-old Cuban boy identified as Daniel González Hernández was rescued from the heavy flooding caused by Hurricane Oscar in the Guantanamo municipality of San Antonio del Sur, where at least seven people have died, reported the official profile "Idolkis Arguelles Berdón."

This teenager was admitted to the Pedro Agustín Pérez Provincial Pediatric Hospital in Guantánamo after being rescued by members of the Municipal Defense Council due to the flooding that has left the area isolated following the passage of the hurricane on October 20.

González Hernández, who is a resident of Macambo, suffered a serious injury to his left leg and has successfully undergone a necrosectomy, a necessary medical procedure to remove dead tissue and prevent infections that could cause permanent deformities, the publication reported.

The situation in Guantánamo remains critical. Yesterday, Baracoa experienced a moment of emergency when a critically ill child was airlifted to a hospital outside the area. The heavy floods and damage to the infrastructure have left this eastern Cuban locality virtually cut off, following the collapse of the La Farola viaduct that connects the city with the rest of the province.

Cuban authorities have confirmed the tragic loss of at least seven lives during the passage of Oscar, including three elderly people and a five-year-old girl. The government has stated that more than a thousand homes have suffered significant damage in various municipalities, with the greatest impacts concentrated in Baracoa, Imías, and Maisí.

Authorities continue working to restore electricity and communication in the most affected areas, while the community comes together to support those affected.
