The Cuban influencer Lucy María González Machado, (@the_zhou_fam), known on social media for sharing aspects of her life as an emigrant, mother, and wife, shared a funny experience about raising her son in a multicultural environment.
Married to a man of Chinese origin, Lucy and her family have lived in various countries. They currently reside in Switzerland, but spent several years in Italy, where their little one was born.
During a conversation with the Venezuelan creator Fedra Yepez (@fey.yepez), Lucy reflected on the cultural differences in the way to discipline children.
According to the Cuban, her child shows curious behavior when she tries to correct him in Italian. He does not pay attention. However, when switching to Spanish, the impact seems to be much greater.
Both Lucy and Fedra agreed that "scolding in Spanish" has a special strength and a tone of authority that, compared to other languages like Italian or English, seems to resonate more deeply with children.
For Lucy, this experience shows how the mother tongue, with its unique expressions and emphases, becomes a powerful resource in upbringing.
The Cuban influencer and mother wants her son to learn the best from the various cultures in which he is developing.
The small child has a strong influence from his paternal family, of Chinese origin; he grows up in a European community, with Italian as the main language for socialization; but at home, Spanish will not be lost, and above all, the Cuban accent will not disappear.
