Hurricane Oscar left behind not only material losses but also a toll on human life as it passed through eastern Cuba. However, amidst the pain, numerous expressions of solidarity have emerged among Cubans, reflecting mutual support in times of adversity.

Among these displays of solidarity is that of a Cuban truck driver who, from Tampa, donated a tool kit to a young person in San Antonio del Sur, thereby providing them with the means to continue recovery efforts following the hurricane.

The artist Daniel Ross Dieguez shared this story of solidarity on his Facebook profile, where he recounted that the truck driver, who works for a Canadian company, personally requested that the kit be delivered to Henry, one of the young people who assisted in rescuing some individuals during the floods caused by the cyclone.

Ross mentioned that food was also delivered to Henry and Freidi, as well as other essential supplies for them and for Darwin, his wife, and his daughter, who also suffered the consequences of the cyclone.

"Mission accomplished. Thank you, community. Cubans are always great, no matter where they are," said the young filmmaker, highlighting the solidarity that remains strong among Cubans, even from outside the country.

In another post, Ross mentioned that the neighbors rescued by Henry and Freidi have received care and support: “Today I brought them medicine. Their feet are still swollen. With the medication I bought with donor money, a neighbor who is a nurse will take care of their bandaging. They have toiletries, food, and my girlfriend Claudia Urrutia Quevedo and my mother-in-law Naivis Quevedo Llorente donated blouses like the ones in the photo and other clothes.”

The young man also expressed his gratitude to those who have contributed, adding: "Thank you all. Before the week ends, I will thank the list of those who have donated and have allowed me to mention them for their humanitarian gestures. Thank you very much."

Among the stories of solidarity and heroism is that of Jonathan Frómeta Navarro, who has become one of the individuals deserving of special recognition following the floods that marked a turning point in San Antonio del Sur, due to the devastating impact of Hurricane Oscar on that municipality in Guantánamo.

Although he prefers to avoid the spotlight, his neighbors say that during the floods, "he was the man to thank" for his help and bravery in the midst of the emergency.
