The Cuban Aviation Corporation reported that, due to the approach of Hurricane Rafael, it has been decided to suspend service and air operations at the international airports of Santa Clara and Cienfuegos.
The entity announced on Facebook that the measure will take effect at 12:00 PM this Wednesday and will extend until 12:00 PM tomorrow, Thursday, November 7.
The affected airlines are making the necessary adjustments to ensure the protection and safety of their passengers, the statement indicated.
This Tuesday, the Cuban Aviation Corporation announced that, due to the weather conditions caused by Hurricane Rafael, it has been decided to suspend operations at several airports across the country.
The measure included the airports of Girona, Cayo Largo del Sur, Havana, and Varadero, starting at midnight on Tuesday, November 5, until noon on Thursday, November 7, noted Transport Minister Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila on Facebook.
Cuban Television broadcast updated information on the progression of the dangerous Hurricane Rafael, which has reached Category 3 on the Saffir-Simpson scale and is about to make landfall on the western coast of Cuba.
The midday broadcast of the national news featured a report on the development and path of the hurricane, with contributions from the renowned Cuban meteorologist José Rubiera, who warned about the main dangers of the storm.
"There will be heavy and intense rains as the hurricane moves northwest towards Pinar del Río," said Dr. Rubiera during a connection with the news outlet shortly before the hurricane reached Category 3.
