Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz and Cuban-Spanish singer Chanel Terrero defended Beatriz Luengo and Yotuel Romero following the offensive remarks made by Willy Toledo, the Spanish actor and supporter of the Cuban regime, against the couple.
"Between what he says (all lies) and what he doesn't (hiding the fact that his family in Cuba has repudiated him for being a 'gusano'), this Yotuel is the epitome of a person who would sell his own child for a few coins. Or his people: he has been asking for years to tighten the blockade against those he claims to defend," Toledo said on his social media.
Her harsh words, expressed after the airing of the documentary Patria y Vida on Spanish television, touched Luengo’s maternal instincts, prompting her to respond to the actor as both a mother and a human rights activist advocating for the freedom of Cubans.
"Children deserve respect, protection, and care. It is unacceptable to insult by involving minors, and we should all be part of that. [This is] my response to the abhorrent words of the miserable Willy Toledo towards us," wrote the Spanish artist on Instagram, where she shared a video with her response to the supporter of the Cuban dictatorship.
The solidarity of many other Spanish artists toward Beatriz and Yotuel was immediate, and in the comments on their post, several of them expressed their disgust at Toledo's words and their empathy for the couple's cause.
"My dear, there are bad people, cruel people, misguided people, and foolish people. And then there are those who have it all. Don’t let that miserable, mentally deforested person steal even a second of your peace. I care for you and admire you, dear friend," wrote Alejandro Sanz in the comments, prompting reactions from many other Instagram users.
Beatriz replied to Sanz, expressing her gratitude for his support. "Thank you, master of music and of life," she said to the man from Madrid.
"Thank you for supporting the Cuban cause"; "You are medicine for the soul"; "You are great, the good Cubans appreciate your support"; "We love you for who you are: an intelligent man and defender of the truth. Thank you for standing up for my fellow countryman Yotuel, his wife, and his family; and for all the Cubans who have experienced firsthand what Yotuel describes," other users replied to Sanz.
Another artist who showed solidarity with Beatriz was the Cuban-Spanish Chanel Terrero, who became widely known following the 2022 edition of the Eurovision festival, where she represented Spain with the song SloMo.
"I am with you, Bea," Chanel said to the singer and Yotuel's wife. "Thank you, my dear, for your support during this vulnerable time," Beatriz replied to Chanel, who expressed her affection and solidarity once again.
