A hurricane Oscar victim shows the mattress that the government sold her for over 700 pesos

The affected individuals are reporting that the Cuban government is selling them the donations sent from other countries.

A hurricane Oscar victim in Guantánamo, whose home sustained severe damage, angrily reported that the government sold her a mattress for 735 pesos.

The woman, a resident of Baracoa, showcased a mattress—more like a mat due to its thinness—in a video and noted that it is for someone suffering from cancer.

"It's useless, it just bends," she pointed out angrily, before adding that they had promised her a camero mattress only to end up selling her "that piece of junk."

The man who made the recording stated that those mattresses were donated by other countries, because the Cuban government "doesn't give anything at all."

"Look at what he does to the residents, to those affected, selling them mattresses," he emphasized.

The video was shared on the Facebook wall of singer Saúl Manuel, who lashed out at the regime for selling the donations he receives to those who have lost everything.

"I'm not going to go into details about the aid that is given away in the United States or any respectable country whenever a natural disaster occurs," he stated.

On November 11, official journalist Idolkis Argüelles Berdión explained that mattresses were being distributed to the population affected by Hurricane Oscar in the municipalities of San Antonio del Sur, Imías, and Baracoa.

According to Rafael Jiménez Martínez, the commercial chief of the business group, the retail network in the province had received approximately 5,213 items, which would be distributed either as donations or for sale.

"The donations are completely free; and the remainder is sold at a 50% discount, funded by the state budget," he specified.

The information added that the distribution is the responsibility of the municipal defense councils, which determine the order of delivery of the mattresses, prioritizing children with associated pathologies, those who are bedridden, postpartum women, and individuals receiving social assistance.
