The son of the esteemed and remembered Cuban musician Adalberto Álvarez dedicated an emotional tribute message this Friday, the day he would have turned 76 years old.
Brayan Álvarez shared a post on Facebook expressing how much he remembers his father and stating that he will continue to work to carry on his legacy.
"On a day like today, this genius was born, and I had the privilege of having him by my side for 22 years of my life, admiring him day after day and trying to learn from him at every moment. Each passing year makes it even clearer how much we miss you, both as a human being and as a musician for all the new generations that are striving to follow in your footsteps," he said.
"There isn't a day in my life that I go out on the street without someone stopping to talk about you, or I hear someone proudly say from afar, 'Look, there goes Adalberto's son.' I can say with certainty that you are, were, and will always be so great that your legacy and your story will never die. So all that’s left for me is to congratulate you on your birthday and to thank you for having taught me so much in life. I love you, Dad, I hope you are enjoying this day from heaven," he stated.
Adalberto Álvarez passed away on August 31, 2021, due to coronavirus, after several weeks in the Pedro Kourí Hospital in Havana.
His son Brayan, who studied music from a young age and is a virtuoso pianist, announced a few days later that he would uphold his father's musical legacy and would work hard to honor the responsibility left to him by his father by taking over the leadership of his ensemble.
"I know you are by my side, helping me and giving me the strength to continue that immense legacy for which you entrusted me with the responsibility and the reins so that it never dies. Today, I take it on with great pride and promise you, Dad, that I will give my life for your work. And even though I am only 22 years old, those years have been spent by your side, living with you every day and learning from the Genius and Master that you are. I will always speak in the present because you are still with us in your songs and in our hearts," he wrote on the official account of the Adalberto Álvarez and his Son orchestra.
Her sister Dorgeris commented on the post: "This will be my brother, and we will all be with you so that Dad's legacy never dies."
