A Cuban claims that it is harder to get by outside of Cuba

A TikTok video from the user @nopuedocontigooficial1 highlights the differences between living in Cuba and abroad, using humor to address issues of shortages and cultural adaptation.

A humorous video posted on TikTok by the user @nopuedocontigooficial1 has sparked laughter and generated thousands of comments among users of the platform. In the clip, the young Cuban comically addresses the experience of living outside Cuba, comparing it to life on the island, particularly in supermarkets.

The TikToker, with a heavily ironic tone, argues that “outside of Cuba, one struggles more than in Cuba,” referring to the abundance of options in foreign supermarkets compared to the lack of alternatives in Cuban stores. According to his analysis, life in Cuba is less challenging because “there’s not much to think about,” as there aren't many choices available.

In the video, which has already garnered thousands of views, the Cuban humorously recounts how the vast array of products in supermarkets outside the island can be overwhelming, while in Cuba, with almost empty shelves, the decision-making process is much simpler. “There are so many types of rice that it gives me a headache,” the young man quips, highlighting the stark contrast that illustrates the reality of shortages in Cuba and the challenges emigrants face when adapting to new consumption patterns.

The post has sparked a wave of reactions, ranging from laughter to deeper reflections on the cultural and economic differences between Cuba and other countries. "It's true! There are so many things here that drive you crazy," wrote one user, while another commented, "There’s no worse truth expressed as a joke."

This type of humor reflects how many Cubans use social media to creatively express their perspectives on life both on the island and abroad, as well as the challenges they face when emigrating. Additionally, it highlights the ability of humor to connect the Cuban diaspora and bring visibility to their experiences.

The video from @nopuedocontigooficial1 continues to circulate on TikTok, garnering laughter and comments that highlight how humor can serve as a tool to address complex realities and share experiences with a touch of wit.
