Thanks to the solidarity initiative "Huellas," Alejandro Babastro Téllez, an 18-year-old from Contramaestre, Santiago de Cuba, has regained the hope of walking again thanks to the arrival of an orthopedic device from Miami.

The news was announced by Johanna Jolá Álvarez, the project leader, who explained on Facebook that the device was purchased and transported to Cuba thanks to the generosity of Boris Jolá.

He pointed out that this person not only purchased and packaged the equipment but also personally brought it in their luggage, becoming a beacon of hope for this family.

According to the activist, the initiative arose after she was contacted several months ago by Karina Téllez García, a nurse at the Hospital de Contramaestre and mother of the young beneficiary.

Since then, "Huellas" has taken on the commitment to find a solution to restore mobility to the patient, who was severely affected after an accident.

The orthopedic device is now on Cuban soil, marking a new chapter in this family's life.

For Karina, who is dedicated to saving lives in the challenging conditions of Cuba's public health system, this gesture represents the chance to see her son walk again.

In another post, Jolá announced that the orthopedic equipment is already on its way to Santiago de Cuba, specifically to Contramaestre, where it will be delivered to Miguel Alejandro Babastro Téllez, the young beneficiary.

"The device travels on Bus 3197, thanks to the support of our transporters and the cooperation of driver Soto, who welcomed this load of love with joy. We also thank the shift supervisor, inspectors, and baggage handlers at the National Bus Terminal in Havana for their attention and support," the activist stated.

From the Huellas project, they reaffirmed their gratitude to all the people who trust in their work and make it possible for donations to reach those who need them most.

Despite the criticism directed at activist Johanna Jolá Álvarez and her project "Huellas" due to an alleged affiliation with the Cuban regime, the solidarity initiative has provided assistance to numerous families affected by natural disasters.

Recently, Jolá recalled that although Hurricane Rafael impacted the western region of Cuba, along with a massive blackout and seismic activity in the east, the province of Guantánamo remained in a state of emergency due to the devastation caused by Cyclone Oscar.

In this regard, he emphasized on Facebook that he intended to return to that area to continue assisting those affected.

In the past, he also organized an online campaign to buy a house for a family with three sick children in Ciego de Ávila.
