What once served as the South Shore Hospital in Miami Beach was demolished this morning after more than a decade of being completely abandoned.
As reportedTelemundo 51, "specialized teams used a small amount of explosives to demolish the structure, so Miami Beach city officials closed traffic near the area to avoid possible accidents."
The demolition took place at 10 a.m. in the 600 block of Alton Road and lasted 12 seconds.
Although Alton Road closed between Fifth and Seventh streets, traffic in the area has already been restored.
The South Shore Hospital was built about six decades ago, and beach visitors will surely remember it as it stood at the entrance to Miami Beach.
BG Group LLC and Blaster Controlled Demolitions Inc. were the companies responsible for the implosion of the abandoned hospital.
