The Cuban immigrant Denis Hernández, whoHe chained himself in front of the Siglo XXI immigration station in Tapachula, has been in Miami for days with his wife Lily and his son, as Martí Noticias explained on Thursday.

With them he resides in an apartment in Miami Springs, where he leaves behind months of suffering, since this Cuban lived a journey that lasted six months, which cost him between 10 and 12 thousand dollars; in addition to leading a 12-day hunger strike.

"It was hard to leave Cuba. It was hard to leave my mother, because I knew the problems I was going to face later, but it was necessary for me to leave because it was my life or my freedom," he said.

He recently arrived in Florida on a "temporary stay permit" after being detained for three months in a maximum security prison in Boston.

"I knew that he had not killed anyone and that he was not a criminal, but rather an opponent who is against the totalitarian dictatorship of Cuba and I am going to continue against it," he explained when recounting his stay in prison.

He surrendered at the Piedras Negras International Bridge, after being released in Saltillo (Mexico). "When I turned myself in to the Americans, they asked me how I felt and I said that I felt happy despite being detained," he recalled.

"I explained to them that I was detained by a free country and that I was happy to be in the United States," he added.

On August 13, he was informed in Boston that he would be released. "They told me that I was going to be released and they explained to me that there were two days to do it, the 13th or the 14th and I asked that it be this last day because the 13th is the birthday of the greatest dictator the planet has ever had (... ) Fidel Castro," he said.

Finally he was able to reunite with his sentimental partner and little Denis.

Now this migrant, who for 12 years was a member of the United Antitotalitarian Forum (FANTU) chaired by Guillermo Fariñas, dreams of studying medicine. "It was my dream in Cuba and I couldn't do it because I belonged to FANTU and was against the dictatorship. I want to see if I can make my way with my family and continue fighting for Cuba to be free," he said.

Denis, who said that he was not going to bow down "to the dictatorship," asked the migrants to fight and not give up in the face of difficulties. "I learned that we should not remain silent when we do not agree with our government. In life, those who are brave, do not give up, anything is possible," he concluded.
