The Cuban filmmaker and writer Eduardo del Llano will hold a preview screening of the short film Dos veteranos in Madrid, marking the farewell to the protagonist of the Nicanor saga.

According to the announcement, this is the 15th and final installment of this series of short films, where Nicanor O'Donnell and the other characters will appear reflecting and contemplating, through humor, on that island nation called Cuba.

The audiovisual is also the opportunity for the director to reconnect with friends and the audience at the Madrid headquarters of the General Society of Authors and Publishers (SGAE) this Tuesday at 7 p.m. (local time), where they can discuss with him the directions his work will take from now on as he concludes this stage.

Like almost all the previous stories in the saga, "Dos veteranos" is inspired by a tale by Eduardo himself. According to a statement he made to CiberCuba, this installment is particularly special to him because it features actors such as Osvaldo Doimeadiós, Mario Guerra, Carlos Gonzalvo, and Ana Chelys Matos, as well as Luis Alberto García and Néstor Jiménez, who have brought the protagonists to life over 15 consecutive installments, adapting to the needs of the narrative.

"You have to say goodbye when it's time to end something," Eduardo del Llano tells us when asked why he decides to conclude this story here, featuring a character beloved by many both on the island and beyond. He adds that he wishes to "explore other actors, other projects, other tones."

The premiere in Madrid will precede two significant events for its director. Dos veteranos will be competing at the Soria Film Festival and, to his own surprise, will also compete at the 41st International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in December.

At the SGAE venue, participants will also have the opportunity to purchase the author's latest novel, El enemigo, which will be presented following the screening of the short film and its making of.

"Dos veteranos" marks the conclusion of an important chapter for Eduardo del Llano, who has brought to life one of those characters that Cubans have come to cherish. Throughout this time, many artists have passed before the camera, some of whom are no longer with us, and they have infused that unique sense of humor that we islanders possess, which has saved us from more than one situation.
