
Cuban activist and opposition figure Arianna López Roque denounced that the police authorities of Placetas, in Villa Clara, forcibly detained her while she was on her way to her youngest son's school.
The incident took place this Friday morning and she said that they hit her on the head and back and dragged her to the patrol car.
“It was all fast, there were a few of them, all men,”denounceda CubaNet.
She was later transferred to a police unit where she said she was detained for nearly nine hours.
“A lieutenant colonel who did not identify himself told me that everything they had done to me was the fault of my activism, of the activities we carried out at the [Julio Machado] Academy,” he declared.
Activists in the territory criticized the attack, and described it as a "kidnapping" due to the lack of legal justification and the violent behavior of the police. According toCubaNet The local residents who witnessed the incident shouted at the police officers, “Abusers, let her go!”
Arianna, 29 years old, is one of the main promoters ofthe “Pa’ la Calle” campaign, which currently brings together members of other organizations and has its origin in the province of Villa Clara.
