Cuban-American broadcaster Enrique Santos confirmed that he canceled his participation in the party at the DAER Nightclub of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in solidarity with La Diosa, whose performance at the show was banned.
"God, if they don't want you there, they don't want me either. Out of ethics, respect, and because it's the right thing to do... our pool party at El DAER IS OFF," Santos wrote on Instagram.
In a video posted on his social media, Santos reiterated his full support for the singer, referenced the history of censorship faced by Dianelys Alfonso Cartaya in Cuba, and lamented that she is also being banned in the United States.
"Now she is here in the U.S. facing a great complication, where doors are being closed to her as well. They are hurting her, her family, her followers, her fans, and mine too," emphasized Santos, who expressed dismay that "other Cuban brothers decided to cancel her."
The Cuban-American host stated that they had never had issues with the artists they suggested for the pool party and specified that the promotion partners, known as Miami Vice, referred to the followers of La Diosa as "dirty crowds," which is what would have led to the ban.
"It surprises and disappoints me," said Santos about the decision.
"For ethical reasons, out of respect, and to do the right thing, our pool party is not happening. I don't care what you sing. I respect all artists and freedom of expression," the host added, emphasizing that he does not regret inviting the singer to his party.
"This is a woman who strongly criticized the dictatorship; she was silenced, blocked in Cuba, and made to live a nightmare. How can I allow them to do the same to her here in the U.S. when she has just arrived on humanitarian parole fleeing a dictatorship?" she questioned.
He asked the singer to remain calm and promised her that on June 11, they would celebrate the party elsewhere, in a place that respects the audience and freedom of expression.
"It's absurd, it's discriminatory. If they don't want La Diosa there, then they also don't want Enrique Santos there. They don't appreciate Enrique Santos, and they don't respect Enrique Santos," he added.
"Goddess, stay calm. This will be resolved. Keep your head held high. You know you're a fighter," Santos concluded.
In the comments section of the Instagram post, Diosa expressed her gratitude for the gesture. "Thank you, brother, we need more people like you," she wrote.
This Tuesday, the Cuban singer tearfully informed her followers about the cancellation of her performance at the pool party. During that live broadcast, she had already mentioned that Enrique Santos had acted like a friend and that he had called off the event.
"I have been trying lately to be better, even if some people don’t see it. When I say 'be better,' I mean in the way people want because I am a good person. If the censorship continues to pursue me, I have to keep moving forward. I didn’t bend to the dictatorship just to be allowed to work, and I won’t do it with Miami Vice here in the United States," the performer stated.
A few hours after announcing the cancellation, calmer now, La Diosa returned to her social media to send a message of gratitude to those who stand by her and do not celebrate the obstacles that come her way.
A few weeks ago, La Diosa was forced to cancel her concert in New Jersey, originally scheduled for May 20, following a public controversy with her makeup artist, who claimed that she was giving away tickets to her concerts.
