The Cuban regime declared January 3rd a national holiday "in recognition of the people's efforts" in 2023.
"In recognition of the efforts made by our people in 2023, and to encourage rest for workers, the Prime Minister of the Republic issued Decree 100, which designates January 3 as a national recess day," reported the Secretary of the Council of Ministers, José Amado Ricardo Guerra, during the National Assembly of People's Power this Friday.
This decision will be implemented through Resolution #20 of the Minister of Labor and Social Security, it was detailed.
The regulations stipulate that during holidays, nearly all activities will come to a halt, with the exception of hospital and healthcare services, pharmacies, fuel sales, funeral homes, associated gardens and cemeteries, accommodation services, tourist centers, communications, radio and television broadcasts, basic public services, fishing activities, and any other activities authorized by law.
In these cases, the worker is paid the salary corresponding to one day's work.
For the past 65 years, Cuba has celebrated January 1st and 2nd as public holidays.
January 1 is regarded as "Liberation Day," marking the anniversary of the revolution initiated by the dictator Fidel Castro, while January 2 is known as "Victory Day," referring to the insurgents' triumph over President Fulgencio Batista.
