After undergoing more than twenty surgeries over the span of two decades, Bricella Hernández from Santiago finds herself in a dilemma: to surrender or to continue fighting for her life.

The woman decided to share her story on the social media platform Facebook, seeking the support of people to help her buy a house in Havana, as she has been receiving treatment in the Cuban capital for a decade.

"I have been traveling between Santiago de Cuba and Havana for over 10 years, and I swear I'm at my limit," lamented Hernández, who mentioned making that trip every month.

"Whoever can help me buy a small house or apartment here in Havana would be closer, and I could avoid coming so often," the woman pleaded, as traveling has become quite inaccessible these days amid the crisis and economic inflation.

The unfortunate ordeal of this woman began with a perforation of the bladder and vagina while she was a patient at the Conrado Benítez García Oncology Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, 24 years ago.

"Following that surgery, they performed more than seven procedures trying to improve my condition until they decided to send me to the capital because there was nothing more they could do," the woman recounted.

He mentioned that in Havana, he underwent more than 15 procedures until the doctors gave him three options to choose from: “To continue as I am with grade three urinary incontinence, to reconstruct the bladder, or to have a cystostomy with other variations. I opted for the third option, which is also complex but less complicated.”

Cystotomy is a medical procedure in which an artificial opening is created in the bladder through the abdominal wall to drain urine directly to the outside of the body.

In addition to the suffering that the lady has endured for decades, she also battles diabetes, hypertension, colitis, gastroparesis, esophageal achalasia, among other ailments.

“At this moment, I am hospitalized for an upcoming surgery in addition to another one for a hernia,” emphasized the woman.

Hernández shared his information to gather as much help as possible. His phone number is 53019951, and the numbers of his cards are 9205 1299 7419 6967 and 9225 1299 7028 2635.

The overwhelming situation of public health in Cuba drives people to undertake the most extraordinary actions.

A Cuban minor reportedly committed suicide in Cienfuegos due to the lack of medication for his psychological conditions.

"Yodelvis, a boy from Cienfuegos aged between 12 and 14, suffering from nerves and without medication, found no other solution to his problem than to make the most tragic decision of his life by jumping from an 18-story building in the nuclear city of Cienfuegos," reported the user identified on Facebook as Alpidio Leyva.
