Meliá adds the iconic Hotel Jagua in Cienfuegos to its portfolio.

This hotel was inaugurated on December 28, 1959. It has a central block with seven levels, over 140 rooms, a swimming pool, the Escambray bar, and a cabaret known as Guanaroca.

The hotel chain Meliá announced that the iconic Hotel Jagua in Cienfuegos is part of its portfolio of tourist facilities in Cuba.

"The Hotel Jagua, a symbol of Cienfuegos, will operate in 2025 as INNSiDE Cienfuegos Jagua," explained officials of the Spanish chain to the Hosteltur website.

The acquisition of the hotel is a strategic move by the company. They ensure that now travelers will be able to combine the discovery of the historic center of this UNESCO World Heritage city with the enjoyment of INNSiDE by Meliá experiences.

These experiences include approaches to the cultural life of the area, versatile spaces for leisure, and signature gastronomy.

Cienfuegos, known as the Pearl of the South, is a city of great historical and cultural importance in Cuba. The Jagua Hotel, with its privileged location in the Bay of Cienfuegos, has been a point of reference for national and international tourists.

Meliá continues to strengthen its presence in Cuba, despite international tourism on the island not quite taking off. The Cuban government has been failing to meet its plans for the arrival of foreign visitors for over three years, and the quality of services is increasingly criticized.

The Spanish company is preparing to open two new hotels amid this scenario, with an "ambitious renovation plan."

The first hotel will be Meliá Costa Rey, located at Las Coloradas beach and featuring 566 rooms. It will be exclusively for adults.

The second hotel is Sol Hicacos Varadero. It will start operating on November 1st, near the dolphinarium. It will be aimed at guests aged 16 and older, and it will result from the transformation of the former Turquesa hotel.
