Cuban economist: "The only news that can revalue the currency is that the Government fell."

Emilio Morales has just published an article in Cuba Siglo XXI blaming Gaesa and Díaz-Canel for the 1,500% surge in inflation on the Island in the last six years. He also asserts that El Toque is not responsible for the destabilization of the currency system on the Island.

The Cuban economist Emilio Morales, visiting Madrid these days, stated in an interview given to CiberCuba on Monday that it is "impossible" for the Cuban peso to have revalued by itself, gaining ground against the dollar, as has happened in recent days, and attributes the buying and selling of currencies below the price set by the black market to the UCI cyberclarias (cyberclerks) on the Island.

According to Emilio Morales, the only news that can revalue the peso is "the fall of the Government" because there might be hope for a system change. Until that happens, the peso will continue to rise. At the same time, he rejected the idea that El Toque is responsible for the inflation in the country for publishing the evolution of the currency in the informal market. "What influences inflation is the mismanagement of the economy and Gaesa for taking over Cuba's main bank, which manages the country's resources."

In response to the question of whether there could be any mechanism other than the intervention of clarias to control inflation this week, the economist responded firmly: "That's a lie. Cuba does not produce. Where is the productive support for that to happen? Probably that will regain its course and exceed the barrier of 400 pesos," he insisted.

Morales also rules out that the decrease in the value of money in Cuba is due to a supposed injection of foreign currency in the informal market. "Where would they get foreign currency from if they have power outages every day because they don't have the resources to buy oil? It would have to be a multimillion-dollar injection, and they don't have it."

In your opinion, the uncontrolled exchange situation that Cuba is experiencing is due to Gaesa and the poor management of Diaz-Canel, who, when he took power six years ago, found the peso with an exchange rate of 1 x 24 and now faces an inflation rate of 1,500%.

The economist criticized that Gaesa has disengaged from the social pact that Fidel Castro had with Cubans in exchange for taking away their rights and freedoms. Morales now accuses the government of "stealing the state's finances" and carrying out "a rupture of the social pact that no longer exists today. What exists is that mafia," he stressed.

And it is to those "mafiosos" that he accuses of having stolen the country. He dedicates his latest article in Cuba Siglo XXI, published this Sunday, to this topic: "Gaesa and Díaz-Canel, main responsible for the inflation in Cuba".

At this point, Morales criticized that in an interview granted to EFE, the General Comptroller of the Republic, Gladys María Bejarano Portela, has spoken in "political terms" about Alejandro Gil, the former Cuban Minister of Economy, involved in a judicial process for corruption. It bothers him that she has not provided details of what really happened and that she referred to him speaking of "a betrayal". However, what he finds really serious is that she admitted that she cannot audit Gaesa.

What is your opinion?
