A child injured after a stairway collapsed in a building on the Malecón in Havana

The incident occurred on Monday night.

The collapse of a stairway in a building located on the Malecón in Havana is reported to have caused minor injuries to a six-year-old child, according to several reports on social media.

The building where the incident occurred is located on Malecón between Cárcel and Genios -as some commentators with knowledge of the case have clarified- and not on "Malecón between Cárcel and Ángeles," as most publications have reported on the incident.

A video recorded by witnesses from the Malecón -published on social media by Yosmany Mayeta- showed the intervention of authorities and emergency teams in the area.

So far, little information has been released about what happened, which corresponds to the neighborhood of Colón.

Despite the scarce information available about the incident, several photos published confirm that the police, firefighters, and ambulances arrived at the scene to assist both the injured person and the other residents in the building.

In the images, it can be seen that the firefighters placed a ladder on the facade of the building apparently to rescue the neighbors who were trapped on the upper floor.

Regarding the injured child, a source revealed that he was admitted to the Pediatric Hospital Juan Manuel Márquez. It is unknown what type of injuries he suffered and the exact circumstances in which he was injured, that is, whether he was climbing the stairs or passing by the area.

Until the closing of this note, official media outlets have not commented on the collapse, one more in a Havana that many Cubans agree is falling apart.
