For 45 years, Romeu’s Cuban Restaurant, located in South Florida, served the Cuban community in Broward County, but last Thursday it closed its doors for good, leaving its loyal customers devastated.
According to Telemundo, the Broward County Sheriff's Office issued an eviction notice for the business, as indicated by a notice posted on the door and in court documents.
A letter posted outside the establishment at Coquina Plaza, located at 6800 Dykes Road, announced the closure of the Cuban restaurant.
"During these 45 years in the market, you have been more than just clients to us. You have become our family," the message stated.
"We have faced many challenges in the past, but the current state of the economy makes it increasingly difficult to keep up with the management costs of our store," the letter stated.
The alleged debt of Romeu's Cuban Restaurant amounts to over $82,000 in unpaid rent, according to court documents.
“It breaks our hearts to have to say goodbye, but we must prioritize our family's financial stability,” the text stated.
According to Telemundo, the restaurant recently shared an Instagram story from a customer thanking them for years of comfort food and declaring: "The worst day of all."
In 1978, the story of this restaurant began with several locations in Miami-Dade County before it settled in Broward.
Until its closure, Romeu’s Cuban Restaurant offered meeting rooms for events, takeout service, delivery, and a variety of services for birthdays, weddings, and baptisms. Additionally, they collaborated with churches and business groups.
