The locomotive of a high-speed train from the Brightline company collided with a car stuck on the railroad tracks in Broward County this Sunday.
Images shared by the Only in Broward events website showed the moment when the train collided with the car. It is unknown how the vehicle got to the impact site, far from the railroad crossing.
Around 7:00 p.m. today, the Brightline train collided with a car that appeared to be stuck on the tracks in the Hollywood area. No injuries have been reported at this time. We will update as the story develops," the mentioned site reported on its social media.
Since they entered into operation, several accidents with high-speed trains have been reported in Florida.
In mid-December 2023, the driver of a car narrowly escaped being hit by a Brightline train when his vehicle inexplicably got stuck between the barriers.
A video shared by the Only in Dade events site showed the tense moment when the driver of a car that had become trapped between the safety barriers tried to move it to avoid being hit.
After trying several times, the driver chose to move aside upon hearing the horn of the locomotive, which did not stop and ended up crashing into the front of the vehicle. The accident took place in North Miami and nobody was injured.
At the end of October of that year, a Brightline train struck a person in Miami, causing their death.
The Miami-Dade Firefighters responded to the scene, but could only certify the pedestrian's death. At the time, there was suspicion that it could have been a suicide.
In August 2023, a car ended up stuck on the train tracks in Miami for reasons unknown, causing a momentary halt in rail service.
Apparently, the driver of the car made a wrong turn and ended up falling onto the train tracks, where he got stuck. A train from the Brightline company, responsible for connecting Miami with Orlando, was forced to stop at the scene of the incident.
A month earlier, a train accident occurred in Miami when a train from the same company collided with a car that did not respect the safety barrier.
The incident took place near Midtown and was captured by people who recorded it with their cell phones from other cars.
In the videos, it was clearly observed how the vehicle stopped on the other side of the barrier, after passing underneath it, and even moved a little further before the train passed.
