New details have emerged regarding the tragic traffic accident that occurred on Sunday afternoon in Camajuaní, Villa Clara, in which one person lost their life.
The incident, which also left 26 injured, occurred when a Moskvitch collided with a Transgaviota bus traveling from Cayo Santamaría to Abel Santamaría International Airport.
Henry Omar Pérez, who identifies as a communicator and a member of the government-affiliated Cuban Association of Social Communicators, reported on his Facebook that the victim (the driver of the car) was traveling alone and died at the scene.
"Of the 26 injured, only 10 remained hospitalized, all of whom are not in life-threatening condition," he noted in another post.
Finally, he revealed that "all the children from the accident (six in total) are out of danger and are gradually leaving the hospital."
The deceased was named Rafael and lived in the village of Meneses in Villa Clara.
Images shared on social media show that his car was virtually destroyed. The bus, for its part, tipped over and lost all the windshield glass.
The accident occurred just past the Minerva Curve, in the area known as Carmita Crossing.
Although the official reason for the accident has not been disclosed, a user on social media claims that the Moskvitch veered off the road. The driver attempted to re-enter the lane, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed at high speed into the bus, which was nearly stationary, causing it to overturn.
Initially, it was reported that one of the injured was in critical condition, but according to information from Omar Pérez, it is believed that their condition has improved.
The bus was carrying 38 people from a tourist area to the airport in the province. The state media has not clarified whether there are any foreigners among the injured.
The injured were initially treated at the Octavio de la Concepción Polyclinic in Camajuaní, but were later transferred to the Pediatric Hospital and the Arnaldo Milián Castro Hospital in Santa Clara.
