Star pitcher Aroldis Chapman struck out Japanese player Shohei Ohtani, considered by many as the best pitcher in the world, with a 103 miles per hour (MPH) fastball on Wednesday in a game where the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-6.

It was a historic day for the left-handed player from Holguín, and not just because he sent Ohtani to the bench with the second fastest strikeout of the current Major League Baseball season.

The Cuban missile owns the two fastest pitches of the 2024 season: 104 mph and 103.8 mph (the first one is also the fastest in the history of the Pittsburgh), with which he surpassed Mason Miller's 103.7 mph, from the Oakland Athletics. Both pitches were to the Dominican Teoscar Hernández.

The Cuban reliever, who came out to play in the top of the seventh inning, made a total of eight deliveries to the catcher's glove, of which six exceeded 100 mph, and struck out two of the five batters he faced.

Precisely, with a pitch at 104 mph, he achieved the fastest pitch in the history of his current organization (Pittsburgh Pirates). Additionally, it represented the fastest pitch of the current Major League Baseball season. In this way, he surpassed the record of Mason Miller, a pitcher for the Oakland Athletics.

Aroldis agreed in January to a one-year contract with the Pirates for 10.5 million dollars, after winning the World Series with the Texas Rangers.

This is the 14th season in the Major Leagues for the legendary 36-year-old baseball player.

Chapman has saved 321 games throughout his career, during which he won two World Series rings, the other with the Chicago Cubs in 2016.
