A fuel truck overturned for unknown reasons on a runway at the Miami International Airport early Thursday, requiring the intervention of 15 Miami-Dade County fire units to prevent further harm.
After the Signature Flight Support tanker truck overturned -around 5:45 a.m. on June 6th- the flammable liquid spread over a wide area of the runway where private jets arrive.
The situation forced the staff at the location to call emergency services, who responded immediately, as reported by the local press.
Once the Miami-Dade Fire Department (MDFR) teams arrived at the scene at 4200 Northwest 21st Street, they quickly proceeded to surround the vehicle with orange cones to prevent anyone from getting close.
They also disconnected the vehicle's ignition sources.
The driver of the crashed truck received medical attention from MDFR. He was examined at the scene but refused to be transported to a hospital.
Two other people were transported to a hospital, where they were admitted with minor injuries.
Sky10's cameras flew over the scene and were able to see the rescue teams' operation.
According to the statements obtained by the firefighters, the quick operation succeeded in significantly reducing the amount of fuel that was being spilled.
The situation was reported to the Department of Management and Environmental Resources (DERM).
Signature Aviation MIA is the fixed-base operator (FBO) at Miami International Airport, managing private jets and general aviation flights.
An investigation will seek to clarify the cause of the accident.
