Ivette Cepeda: The Cuban diva who overcame cabarets to fulfill her dream of singing

The singer shared with her followers the inspiring story of her rise, from singing in cabarets to becoming a respected and beloved diva.

The Cuban singer Ivette Cepeda recently shared an emotional and inspiring message on social media, pointing out that at 43 years old, while still performing in the cabarets of Havana, she had to make a momentous decision about her career.

In a Facebook post, the artist explained that 20 years ago, while working in cabarets and her son was still in daycare, he used to complain that she didn't put him to sleep: "As soon as I got home in the early morning, he would call me to go to the bathroom, give him milk, and have a good couch session," she pointed out.

"Many times I fell asleep with him, and with numb hands, I would put him back in his bed," the artist said, explaining that her nightly routine included removing her makeup, taking a bath, and getting a few hours of sleep to then, at dawn, take her little one to daycare."

With the passage of time, and due to her son's demands, typical of his age wanting to spend more time with his mom, she made a decision: To take the big leap.

However, he/she confessed that at that time, hours passed without finding out how to do it.

Something also happened that prompted her to take control of her destiny. One day, while taking her son to school, he asked her if they would work at night and if she would put him to bed.

"Everything was because of the songs I sang to her!" Cepeda said.

One morning we passed by a record store and he said to me, 'You are not famous. Haila is. You don't have any records,' the artist shared on social media.

One day, with the support of many friends and my mother, who threatened me with imminent old age (I was already 46), I managed to do the first concert of my life, and 'Estaciones' was born," noted the renowned Cuban singer.

He reported that the first song he released was born from the pen of the composer Fernando Aramís, and he considered it a "gift for my mom".

But I thought, 'how many mothers would not do the same for the fulfillment of God's plan and for their children to give that extra, the one needed to truly understand why we have come into this world,' shared Cepeda on Facebook.

"I came to sing and thank God for many things," he pointed out, highlighting that one of the greatest gifts of his life has been precisely his mother: Himilce Quevedo Pérez.

Regarding that first performance, he pointed out that "it was the only concert he was able to attend, on November 8, 2008, at the Bellas Artes Theater."

After that takeoff, Cepeda has achieved several personal and professional successes.

Without a doubt, one of the most important things was releasing "La rosa de Jericó" in 2021, their first studio album.

The album included 12 songs by renowned authors such as Polito Ibáñez, Carlos Varela, Ireno García, Augusto Blanca, Leonardo García, and Yhosvany Palma, among others.

In 2022, he also released "Like the Rain," a love story filmed in Isla de la Juventud, which was a tribute to the photographer Jaime Prendes and his wife, the poet Bellasoe Cobas, who passed away the previous year.
