The naval squadron of the Russian Northern Fleet conducts exercises on the use of high-precision missiles in the Atlantic Ocean before arriving in Havana this Wednesday; while being closely monitored by the United States.
The Ministry of Defense of Russia, on its Telegram channel, published a video of these maneuvers and stated that a "heterogeneous naval attack tactical group of the Northern Fleet, consisting of the multipurpose nuclear submarine Kazan, missile cruiser Project 885M, and the frigate Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov" carried out the exercises.
According to the statement, the crews of a frigate and a nuclear-powered submarine practiced the use of high-precision missiles through computer simulation against naval targets representing naval groups of the conventional enemy and located more than 600 kilometers away.
Days before, the frigate Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov conducted a training exercise to fend off an aerial attack.
During the same, they also practiced the actions of combat crews, the interaction of command posts and combat stations during the shooting with the AK-192M naval artillery installations and the Broadsword anti-aircraft artillery system against simulated aerial targets.
This while the fleet was heading to Havana, where it is expected to arrive this Wednesday, and Washington announced that it would deploy US ships to monitor Russian warships and a nuclear submarine off the coast of Cuba.
Two U.S. Navy destroyers and two ships towing sonar equipment behind them are following the Russian submarine," wrote CBS, citing a U.S. official. Another destroyer and a U.S. Coast Guard ship are following the rest of the Russian Navy group, the source emphasized.
Washington also considered that these ships did not represent a danger to the security of the United States.
Last week, the Cuban regime confirmed that the Russian squadron would visit the Port of Havana between June 12 and 17; as part of the "historic friendship relations" between Cuba and Russia.
None of the ships are carrying nuclear weapons, so their stopover in our country does not pose a threat to the region," a statement from the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed, also stating that upon its arrival at the port of Havana on June 12, the frigate Gorshkov will fire 21 gun salutes "as a greeting to the nation."
According to the article, the Russian sailors will carry out a program of activities with courtesy visits and tours of historical and cultural interest in Havana.
