This Friday, Cuba displayed its best weapons and swept Bulgaria 3-0 to keep its aspiration of qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games alive in the final stretch of the Men's Volleyball Nations League.
In Slovenia, one of the venues of the competition, coach Jesús Cruz's team defeated the Balkans with scores of 25-18, 25-20, and 25-18, obtaining six valuable points in order to continue in the race for the final spot in the competition under the shadow of the five rings.
In this way, the team scores 251.69 points in the world ranking and managed to approach Serbia (256.50), its direct rival in the fight for the goal, which will face Turkey this same round.
Regarding the match against the Bulgarians, the Cubans scored 49 points in the attack, one direct serve, and three blocks, while individually, the opposite player Michael "El Ruso" Sánchez and the setter Miguel Ángel López shined, scoring 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Even though they will have to wait for the results of the Serbians, the Antillean squad still has a pending match against Poland, the leader of the global ranking and the favorite for the gold medal in the Olympic event.
So far, the teams that have secured their spots for Paris 2024 are: France, as the host; Germany, Brazil, Japan, United States, Poland, Canada, Italy, Slovenia, and Argentina.
