Cuban activists have started a fundraising campaign on social media to help families affected by the recent rains in Havana.

The activist Johanna Jolá Álvarez launched a call on Facebook this Saturday, following the heavy rains that caused flooding in several municipalities in Havana.

The HUELLAS team (a citizen initiative) has started collecting donations for the victims in the Cuban capital," the activist announced on social media.

In their post, they shared a list of the items being collected: personal hygiene products, canned or packaged food, clothing and footwear, school supplies, toys and board games, bedding (such as sheets and towels), and medications.

He insisted that the recent rains, which caused floods and landslides, have made "many Cuban families lose what little they have," he pointed out.

"The worst is yet to come when the rains cease," he warned on Facebook. After the storm, it is common for more buildings to collapse due to the structural weakening caused by the floods.

This situation left worrying images in Havana that have been shared on social media.

In a video shared in the Facebook group "BUS & TRUCK ACCIDENTS for more experience and fewer victims!", a modern car was seen falling into a pothole in El Cerro, in Havana, during the sudden floods.

"Another car has fallen there. Now no one else is going to fall because this man just fell there," a woman can be heard saying in the shared video clip.

Also, a man, with water up to his neck due to the floods in the neighborhood of Jesús María, in Old Havana, asked the government to take responsibility and to come rescue the elderly and vulnerable people who are in danger.

This area is full of old buildings in very poor structural condition that could collapse with water damage. From a balcony, the cry of "Homeland and Life" was heard as this Cuban demanded accountability from the authorities.
