The regime's inaction has prompted Cuban activists to seek help on social media for an elderly woman and her nephew with Down syndrome in Camagüey, who are suffering from a severe food shortage.
Activist Guelmi Abdul reported the case on Facebook, explaining that Iris, a 72-year-old woman, has had to take care of her 24-year-old nephew Yosvany. However, their situation is precarious due to their low income.
According to the publication, Yosvany lived with two brothers who pawned the checkbook provided to them by social services, which is currently being canceled. Additionally, they sold the supply booklet: "They left him alone at home, so his aunt took him with her."
However, her aunt, being an elderly person, is finding it difficult to feed her nephew, noted the alert published by the activist.
He also explained that currently, some neighbors and the Medicamento Ayuda Camagüey group on WhatsApp, along with the Aleluya temple in Plaza de La Habana, led by Dr. Oscar Rivero, are helping this family with clothing, a mattress, toiletries, and shoes.
"We need to come together and bring more people to the cause, because many are suffering due to food shortages," the alert stated, emphasizing that this is just one of the many families in Cuba enduring hardships under the regime's indifferent gaze.
Iris and Yosvany live in building 11, apartment nine, Sánchez Soto neighborhood, across from the Sánchez Soto computer club in Camagüey. The home phone number is 32201496.
Recently, the same activist raised concerns about a very similar situation in the city of Camagüey, reporting on the precarious circumstances of an elderly woman and her son with Down syndrome, who are facing such a severe crisis that the woman has been forced to go out onto the street to beg for money.
Abdul, who leads a support group for those in need, shared on his Facebook wall the story of Roger, the young man with Down syndrome, and his mother Gilda, who is over 70 years old.
