Outside of the call-ups for Spain in the Eurocup and the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the soccer player Iñigo Martinez chose Cuba as the destination for his vacation to rest and recharge energy for the upcoming season.
The player was seen at the facilities of the Hotel Meliá Jardines del Rey, located in Cayo Coco, north of the province of Ciego de Ávila, while his future is being defined at Barcelona's club offices.
From the social network Facebook, the administration of the tourist center announced the arrival of the central defender, while the Iberian also posted stories on Instagram with the Plaza de la Revolución in the background.
A challenging season comes to an end, full of challenges, obstacles, and also learning experiences. Games, training sessions, tough moments... They all are opportunities to keep growing and improving, and that's what I hold onto," he wrote on Instagram a few weeks ago before landing in the Caribbean.
"Now it is time to rest, gather strength, and face the upcoming season with the greatest of enthusiasm. Thanks to everyone for your support, culers," added Martínez, who has a contract with the culers until 2025, but his presence in the next campaign is not guaranteed.
Cuban fans also interacted with the athlete and made it known on the social network X.
The visit to the island takes place just one month before FC Barcelona's return to the United States, for the third consecutive summer, to carry out the preseason in a tour of three scheduled matches against three giants: Manchester City, Real Madrid, and AC Milan.
The meetings are scheduled for July 30, August 3, and August 6, in the cities of Orlando, Florida; New Jersey, and Baltimore, in that order, as detailed on the club's official website, which also announces a program of institutional and social activities to enhance the development and popularity of the lineup.
According to the information released, the expedition will depart from Barcelona on July 28, and its first stop will be at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, "a stadium with a capacity of 60,219 spectators that once hosted several matches of the 1994 FIFA World Cup."
The rest of the program will take place at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey, with a capacity of 82,500 people, while the closing matches are scheduled at M&T Bank Stadium, which will host 71,000 fans.
