Less than a month away from the inauguration of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Cuban triple jumper Jordan Díaz remains in excellent form and shone once again at the Spanish National Athletics Championship.

The Spanish nationalized athlete achieved a mark of 17.71 meters, another irrefutable proof of his talent after reigning three weeks ago at the continental sports event, with one of the best results in history.

In addition to the winning jump, the 23-year-old athlete achieved two more jumps over 17 meters: 17.32 and 17.50, which would have also secured the gold medal for him, according to the newspaper Marca.

In the aforementioned European-level competition, Díaz reached 18.18 meters to win the championship with Spanish and continental records, in addition to the third best mark of all time, coming just 11 centimeters short of the world record held by British athlete Jonathan Edwards.

The historical classification ended up as follows: Jonathan Edwards (18.29), the American Christian Taylor (18.21), and Díaz, a native of Havana and trained by his compatriot Iván Pedroso, a living legend of the long jump.

However, the competition was extremely close, as the Cuban-turned-Portuguese Pedro Pablo Pichardo nailed his spikes at 18.04 to win the silver medal and make his aspirations clear on the road to the competition of the five rings in the French capital.

Also, in the Spanish Championship, held at the Olympic Stadium of the Camilo Cano Sports City in La Nucía (Alicante), the Cuban-born Spanish national Yulenmis Aguilar won her first national title in javelin throwing and has her sights set on the upcoming Olympic event.
