The current Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, has clear options to surpass Joe Biden in the electoral contest that decides the next president, all of this if the current president decides to step away from the electoral race.
Harris grabs more attention from the electorate leading up to the confrontation on November 5th that will decide the country's leader, competing against former President Donald Trump.
According to a survey by CNN, if the situation remains as it is now, with a duel between Biden and Trump, 49% of voters would trust the Republican and 43% the Democrat.
However, if Harris were the Democratic Party candidate, 47% of voters would vote for Trump and 45% for her. In either case, Republicans seem to have the upper hand over the Democrats in the final decision.
The current vice president takes advantage of a base mainly made up of women and independent voters.
According to the survey itself, cited by EFE, half of the voters would opt for Harris, compared to 44% who favor Trump, and among independents, the vice president outperforms the Republican candidate by a nine-percentage-point difference.
The idea that Harris, or another candidate, takes on the presidential race for the Democratic Party, to the detriment of Biden, has gained strength after the presidential debate that he and Trump had on June 27th.
This event will be remembered for the lapses of the Democrat and the firmness and self-confidence shown by the Republican.
In the Democratic Party, some representatives believe it is appropriate to make a candidate change. Biden appeared calm, but he struggled to keep up with the pace of the debate, he stuttered, lost the thread of the conversation, and conveyed signs of distraction to the audience.
In January 2021, Kamala Harris became the first woman to reach the Vice Presidency of the United States, after Joe Biden was proclaimed president in the November 2020 elections, defeating the then president Donald Trump.
The first African-American (of Asian and Caribbean origin) to be elected as senator from California since 2016 and former Attorney General of this state, the most populous in the U.S., Harris was considered by political experts as the breath of fresh air needed by the Democratic candidacy, attracting millions of votes that helped make Joe Biden the most voted president in the country's history, as reported by El Mundo newspaper.
