La Diosa and Osmani García debuted their version of the song "Querida" this Friday, a tribute to Juan Gabriel that has received both criticism and praise from the Cuban audience.
In the comments on a post by CiberCuba on their official Facebook profile, the Cuban singer reacted to the criticism they received for daring to put their own spin on this well-known song by El Divo de Juárez.
"To those who wish me to sue, my mom asked for permission to suffer, to my followers, thank you for the beautiful comments, we work for you. I love you," La Diosa wrote, making it clear that there will be no issues with copyright.
Opinions following the premiere have been divided. “The good thing is that you can’t die twice listening to his tribute”; “Tribute? It’s a satire. What nonsense”; “Mexico should request the extradition of these two. What a lack of respect”; “First-degree murder of such a beautiful song, a tremendous disrespect”; “Oh my God, what a horror. Osmani has a better voice than a bottle of Pepto-Bismol. Juan Gabriel, please don’t listen to this,” wrote some of the most critical.
However, many others came to the defense of La Diosa and Osmani: “Why the attack? Before it was about trivial issues. Now that they create a, let's say... Many artists worldwide sing and alter the rhythm of songs that aren’t their own, like Marc Anthony with Polo Montañez and many others. But when it comes to a Cuban artist, they tear them apart. There's no worse wedge than that of the same wood, which is why we don’t progress”; “Communism has twisted the minds of many Cubans, with such envious comments from those who are starving.”
The Goddess, who is already used to receiving criticism "no matter what she does," has not focused on the negative comments and continues to enjoy the premiere, which has already garnered over 63,000 views on YouTube.
