A Cuban demonstrates what can be purchased with a professional's salary: "5,000 pesos disappear in no time."

The young woman showcased an outrageous situation on social media: a doctor's salary in Cuba amounts to just a few food items.

A Cuban woman showcased on social media how she spent around 5,000 pesos in just a few minutes on a handful of food products, an amount equivalent to the salary of a professional.

Anita Mateu (@anita.mateu) showcased evidence of inflation in Cuba on TikTok, accompanied by a message that leaves little room for further explanation: “The sad reality of my country.”

"We spent a professional's salary in a flash," the young woman explained as she displayed her purchases, which included two bottles of soda, two packets of sugar, some beans, and a carton of eggs with several broken ones. "There are a few pesos wasted there."

"It wasn't a lot of things," the young woman pointed out, highlighting that the salary a doctor receives in Cuba is invested in those few products.

Finally, the young woman was surprised to find several Spanish products on the street, which shows that the poorly stocked state stores, including those that accept foreign currency, force people who can to shop at the so-called mipyme (small and medium-sized enterprises).

In Cuba, people not only spend large amounts of money on food. When there is a little left over from the meager monthly salary, the situation with other products is equally discouraging: skyrocketing prices.

Last March, during the 32nd International Book Fair, the cultural event once again left a bitter taste due to the high prices of books, with one copy costing the equivalent of a monthly salary.

The communicator Yosmany Mayeta shared a message of outrage from a mother who, while taking her son to the booths at the literary event, chose not to purchase any copies due to the high prices.

"This message is just to inform you that these are the prices per unit at the Children's Book Fair. The salary of one month for us parents is approximately what one book costs," the woman stated.
