Cuban activists from the citizen initiative "Huellas" delivered a basket, made up of donations, to a low-income teenager in Santiago de Cuba who faced a high-risk pregnancy this Monday.
Bricella Hernández expressed her gratitude on Facebook to everyone who supported the initiative that allowed donations to reach the 13-year-old first-time mother who experienced a high-risk pregnancy.
"The HUELLAS team, led by our friend Johanna Jolá Álvarez and the guys who founded this wonderful group, thank you a thousand times," he noted.
Bricella also expressed gratitude to Marilín Cruzata, "the driver at the Habana Santiago de Cuba bus terminal, who assisted us in transporting donations for pregnant women in extreme situations," she noted.
The activist shared a photo gallery showcasing the young mother holding her baby, along with the donations that were sent to her in Santiago de Cuba.
At the beginning of the month, activist Johanna Jolá Álvarez, leader of the Huellas initiative, sought help on Facebook for the teenager.
"The HUELLAS team is calling for solidarity to assist a 13-year-old teenager who is about to give birth. This is a social case in the province that requires everyone's help and support," they stated at that time.
Solidarity among Cubans has often emerged in moments when cases of poverty, particularly involving a mother and her children, have come to light.
A Cuban mother, who is so impoverished that she has to go with her daughter to collect trash at a dump in Havana, received assistance from compassionate individuals who were moved by her circumstances.
Facebook user Yaimara Quesada Guillén shared the story of a woman she saw with her young child rummaging through the trash, which sparked a small solidarity campaign in support of the mother and daughter.
However, solidarity among Cubans is not limited to cases of needy mothers living on the Caribbean island.
The TikToker Dairon Cano showcased the recent donations, consisting of essential items, that some of his followers have given to the young Cuban mother who lost everything in a fire in Miami.
"Here is the true Cuban who represents us. What matters to us is getting along, helping each other, and supporting one another," said Dairon as he gratefully received one of the donations.
