With a pitching gem from right-hander Branlis Rodríguez, the Pinar del Río Vegueros defended their home turf and shut out the Industriales Lions (2-0) this Wednesday at Capitán San Luis Stadium, to close out the semifinal "dual meet" 4-2 and secure a spot in the title contention of the 63rd National Baseball Series in Cuba.

Driven by a strong passion for victory, which experienced turbulent moments during the access to the facility, the team led by manager Alexander Urquiola left no room for doubt and secured the pass to the close of the competition thanks to a performance worthy of praise from Rodriguez.

The right-hander worked through six and a third innings, allowing just a couple of hits, three strikeouts, and displaying precise control, while former left-handed major leaguer Raudel Lazo finished out the rest of the game.

From an offensive perspective in a match marked by the good performance of the pitchers, the home team applauded the line drives of Tailon Sánchez and Jorge Yoan Rojas before the two-run home run by Luis Pablo Acosta.

Justly, Acosta can be mentioned as the other hero of the winners, as in the seventh inning he buried the rival's dreams and decreed the end of the inning, after a saving catch when the felines had men on second and third.

Thus, the Pinar del Rio team secured a spot in the final and awaits the winner between Granma's Alazanes and the reigning champion Las Tunas' Leñadores, who are leading 3-1 and will try to secure victory tomorrow.
