A young Cuban resident in Granma who was shot by a police officer on Friday is in very serious condition and may not survive.
Ernesto Figueredo Alarcón, 23 years old, was injured in his own home in the Rosa La Bayamesa neighborhood. He is admitted to intensive care at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Provincial General Hospital with a diagnosis of brain death.
The shooter is a police officer known as Chucho, who is a friend and neighbor of the victim.
According to what the family reported to the independent portal CubaNet, the incident allegedly occurred on Friday at 6:10 PM, when they were alone in a room talking. There was no problem between them, and they were not arguing when the shot was heard.
At this moment, there are members of the Police and State Security in the hospital. The shooter has been detained, but so far the family has not been informed of his statement regarding the cause of the incident.
CubaNet spoke with the medical staff attending to Ernesto, who still has the bullet lodged in his brain and is suffering from severe hemorrhaging. The doctor explained that if the patient survives, it is due to the machines he is connected to.
On the other hand, a friend of the young man, named Delia Ramírez, reported on Facebook the irregularities that exist in the Ministry of the Interior, which could have led to the tragic event, as Chucho is a person with mental health issues.
"Previously, he was a worker in the anti-vector campaign and then took a course, became a police officer, and was given a weapon, to a person who is not in their right mind. More abnormal is the one who did it. They got along well, and yet he ruined Ernesto's life," he lamented.
According to Delia, at the moment of the shot, there was a witness: Ernesto's nephew, a six-year-old boy.
"How it happened and why, only they know. Ernesto has no way to tell it, Chucho has not wanted to talk, and the child is only six years old and is too traumatized by what he witnessed," he emphasized.
