The rains this Tuesday in Santiago de Cuba caused flooding in several areas of the city that have historically had problems with the drainage system, such as the area near the intersection of Calle 3 and Trocha, as shown in images shared on social media.
Journalist Yosmany Mayeta shared on Facebook a gallery of images that show the precarious situation of the sewage system in that neighborhood of Santiago, which is frequently affected by sudden flooding.
"After the intense downpour in the Caribbean capital, the low streets and those that have historically had issues with drainage are once again affected by the rapid rise of water," noted the communicator.
A resident of the area told Mayeta that: "It's always the same, they don't unblock the drain and we have to fill up with water."
"Look at how Calle 3 de Trocha is, behind the five-story building," pointed out another internet user.
Mayeta shared a second gallery of images warning people to be careful when walking through the flooded streets.
"Many of the drains in these areas may be open or with a loose grill, and it's better to take precautions than to have to regret," he noted.
In June, several municipalities in Havana suffered the consequences of flooding due to heavy rains.
The official journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso shared several images and videos from the municipalities of Centro Habana, La Habana Vieja, and San Miguel del Padrón, where the waters have been stagnant in the streets.
The rainfall left scenes that showed the risks some people faced due to the rains, partly due to the poor condition of the roads in Cuba.
One of them showed a modern car that fell into a hole in El Cerro, in Havana.
"Another car has already fallen there. Now no one else is going to fall because this man just fell there," a woman is heard saying in a video shared in the Facebook group "ACCIDENTES BUSES & CAMIONES por más experiencia y menos víctimas!".
