Former President Donald Trump launched strong criticisms at the current U.S. government and blamed it for the situation in Venezuela, asserting that "they should have never lifted the sanctions on Maduro."

"The crazy Kamala Harris should never have lifted Trump's oil sanctions on Maduro," she expressed in a post on her social media platform Truth Social.

For the Republican candidate in the November presidential elections, "!She made one of the worst deals of all time! Crazy Kamala helped lead the charge to free Maduro's main money launderer and his two convicted drug-trafficking nephews in exchange for an obviously false promise of free and fair elections for the people of Venezuela," he stated.

"They were neither free nor fair! Look at what is happening now: Maduro sold his oil, met with his money-laundering nephews and drug traffickers, and the Venezuelan people have nothing," lamented Trump.

He said that now "Venezuela is destroyed and its wonderful people are bankrupt and dying."

During his term, Trump imposed severe sanctions on Nicolás Maduro's regime. Recently, the U.S. government eased such sanctions, allowing Venezuela to freely sell its oil in exchange for fair elections.

The relaxation of these measures was not lifted even when chavismo challenged the candidacy of the opposition leader María Corina Machado, which already indicated that the electoral process would not be as fair as it was intended to be.

The political climate in Venezuela has become more tense after Nicolás Maduro was proclaimed the winner of the presidential elections, a decision strongly rejected by the opposition.

On July 29, the National Electoral Council, a Chavista authority, announced Maduro's reelection, a result that immediately sparked protests and rejection from the opposition and a significant part of the population.

Meanwhile, opposition leader María Corina Machado spoke at a press conference and stated that the real winner was Edmundo González: "We have proof of the truth."

The opposition's count shows that Nicolás Maduro received 2,759,256 votes, while González obtained 6,275,182 votes, with the additional achievement of winning in all the states that make up the South American nation.
