A young man identified as Roberto Castilla Oñate was killed at a street party in the Reparto Chicharrones of Santiago de Cuba.
The incident occurred early Saturday morning when the 36-year-old man attended the party, where he reportedly had issues with gang members over an ex-partner, local reporter Yosmany Mayeta reported on Facebook.
Despite being quickly assisted, Castilla Oñate, known to his friends and family as "El Loco," passed away upon arriving at the hospital.
According to several cousins of the young man, the real reason for the attack is still unknown, although it is rumored that it could be related to issues with an ex-partner.
"He went to buy some cigarettes at the pum pum he was at, and one of the guys who had also been with that girl, it seems they were already watching him and attacked him," explained one of his relatives.
Witnesses have stated that the attackers belong to a gang known as "La 46."
According to several sources, the main suspect is a minor known as "Manuel Alejandro," who allegedly stabbed Castilla Oñate twice, causing his death.
Roberto Castilla Oñate lived in the town of Vista Hermosa and was the father of two small children, a girl and a boy.
His body is being laid out at the funeral home in Santiago de Cuba.
This crime adds to the wave of crimes on the island, many of which were reported this week during the Santiago carnival.
